2019 Team Training Day 1: Flowers on Cakes

The blank slate. Probably the most terrifying part of the wedding day is inserting the first stem of a bloom into a clean, buttercream cake. AH! I think our whole team was battling some nerves on this portion of a wedding day, so we enlisted the help of our friends at Buttercream Bakeshop in DC (the best baked goodness in all the land!) and they gave us yummy two tier buttercream cake and then a three tier dummy cake!! Which consists of a styrofoam base covered in fondant. A very popular thing to do in this area because it can be a super elaborate outside and either the base can be real cake for cutting, or the real cake it in easy to cut sheets in the back for catering! BUT a dummy cake offers challenges in that it’s VERY difficult to insert a fresh flower stem into styrofoam! So wiring needs to happen here! So let’s start with the fresh cake –– You can follow our journey here, where each person on our team added a new section to one cake until the whole thing was a magical flower wonderland! We took photos of each stage, so check it all out!

Okay, I can’t with that cake. It’s magical!!! Now moving on to the dummy cake! Elizabeth tackled a super Spring inspired design that was beyond artful! Blooms were wired and actually glued to the surface, since this is a dummy cake that wouldn’t be consumed. The final product was MAGICAL and definitely a favorite!
