A BUSINESS’S TO-DO LIST FOR QUARANTINE, PART II

We shared a post last week regarding our current to-do list while our team works from home. And with the whole world still on their couch right now staying indoors while we monitor the COVID-19 pandemic –– there is plenty more we can be doing both personally and for our businesses.

Keep scrolling down to check out the next handful of things we feel are worth tackling during your time working from home. We hope this is helpful!

  1. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES

Within your means, pay special mind to ways that you can support a small business in desperate need! Pay attention to your local favorites, reach out, order out here and there, send flowers from a local shop for delivery –– anything you can do to help make this time a hint more manageable for those who are doing their best to make rent, pay their staff, pay themselves, etc…

  2. DIVE INTO ENNEAGRAM

We’ve done this with our team. We each know what our Enneagram type is (Lauren is 1, Rachel is 2, Hannah is 6, Elizabeth and Joe are 9, all with various wings) but while we are all cooped up at home, this is the perfect time to get to know our families, our significant others, our roommates, etc. We’ve found that the many articles, books, and podcasts centered around the Enneagram have been massively helpful in learning to work better as a team, so why wouldn’t they make a big impact amongst the people we live with who we are now spending quite a bit more time with!

You can take the official Enneagram test here.

  3. STAY PRESENT AND RELEVANT ONLINE

I know we are all working from home and us in the event industry no longer have events to share as content on our social media platforms –– but we can’t slack here. Just because our doors are shut, doesn’t mean our business no longer exists. It’s time to stay active on Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and the like! We’ve been chipping away at better blogging, working to plan ahead on our Instagram posts, and reviving our Twitter account!

This is also the perfect time to dive deep into a social media platform you feel less proficient in. Watch some youtube videos and hunt for articles online that give you all the details you need to know. For us, this platform looks like PINTEREST! We’ve always had an account since nearly the beginning of our business –– but having an account and pinning to it doesn’t mean that we are using this platform to its fullest potential. There is a lot more for us to learn, so that’s a big goal for us right now!

  4. WATCH SOME DOCUMENTARIES

Get yourself some Disney + and some Netflix and broaden your horizons. There are documentaries for every type of interest! Some of our favorites include:

    Exit through the Gift Shop
    Jiro Dreams of Sushi
    Pina
    The September Issue
    Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
    Free Solo
    Baraka
    Helvetica
    Heima

  5. SYSTEMS OVERHAUL

We have been organizing FIENDS during this season. We’ve cleaned up our Dropbox folders, overhauling all our storage in Google Drive, and cleaning up our Google Calendar. We’ve been working through our stem counting software Curate adding captions to pictures for better organization, adding template clean out dropbox, clean out google drive, tidy up your calendars, etc..

  6. READ THE LIFE-CHANGING MAGIC OF TIDYING UP

And Marie Kondo your entire life. Wash and donate clothing to those in need, and all those other good things. Perfect time to clean out your whole life. So you have a fresh start when it’s time to get back to “normal” life.

  7. DEEP CLEAN YOUR CAR

I don’t know about you, but our cars are FILTHY. Between all the bits of flowers/foliage and all the crumbs from kid’s snacks –– our vehicles are in desperate need of a deep clean.

We’ll be picking some of the nicer weather days to work on cleaning out, vacuuming, dusting, washing, and waxing our cars!

  8. UPDATE CONTRACTS AND POLICIES

I think we all recently got a healthy (or scary) dose of contract-paranoia as most spring events began to cancel or postpone. It is a perfect time to dive into that legalese that we often try to tune out. It’s not fun, but it’s there to protect you and your client! Spending time and money on contracts now can save you thousands later! We love some of these great options for templates to start from (make sure to get them updated by an attorney in your state!): The Legal Paige, Creative Law Shop, Destination Legal.

  9. UPDATE AND REFINE YOUR IMAGERY

Mainly in terms of your website and instagram to start. So many of us forget to update our website with more recent work and to take down work that reflects our style less as we grow. We forget to update testimonials and just branding imagery in general! This is a GREAT time to tackle that and refine who you are showing yourself to be.

If you have a blog or an online portfolio whose images would appear in google searches –– now is a great time to work on SEO and adding keywords throughout your blog and images to help you go farther on the world wide web!

And then when it comes to Instagram, scrolling through the last year or years worth of posts and looking for maybe some images that no longer sit right on your feed –– you can archive them (click the dot-dot-dot in the top right of an image and hit archive)! They’ll disappear from your feed, but still be accessible by you and you could always undo that later down the road should you need.

  10. FILL YOUR LIFE WITH FLOWERS AND PLANTS

Now would be a GREAT time to plant a little something in your backyard, or in a pot on your deck, or even grow a few herbs or vegetables in your house from leftover scraps! Get flowers from a local farm. Order some plant life to love. The health benefits of house plants are no joke and the emotional benefits of flowers could truly be a game changer during this season.
