2024 Spring Internship

HELLO INTERNSHIP SEASON

Twice a year, we offer one or two internship openings for eager, creative souls who are interested in learning about event floral design through immersion experience.

This brave intern will experience ten wedding weeks from beginning to end, starting with learning how to receive and process flowers, moving into creating arrangements, and then setting up and breaking down a wedding, as well as every other important detail in between. Other tasks will include general studio upkeep, gathering and sorting supplies, spray painting the occasional item, arts and crafts, and being flexible to fulfill a variety of roles that arise in a flower studio. Most of our interns are also interested in learning about the business side of florals and will sit in on client consultations and shadow some of our behind the scenes processes.

COULD YOU BE WHAT WE NEED?

We are looking for someone who is kind, hungry to learn, tough, and willing to possibly rip a few pairs of pants along the way (it happens more than you know). Our ideal intern is able to work in a fast paced environment, problem solve with the best of them when in a pinch, provide excellent customer service that includes a lot of smiling, be enthusiastic about hard work and about flowers, and be able to work well independently as well as in a team.

Applications Closed

This internship is a paid position with a ten-week commitment from the week of April 23rd through June 29th. Applicants must be able to commit to working at the studio at least two days a week throughout the internship, and a minimum of five weekend events for both setup and breakdown. Obvious perks of the job will include learning flower skills and gaining what we hope will be invaluable experience. Additional tidbits include an endless supply of coffee and a crew of new friends. Continue down to apply!

F A Q

Q: What will my level of commitment be?

A: We are looking for someone who can work with us in person two full days a week (between Tuesday and Friday) and a minimum of 5 event weekends! We typically start our days at 10:00am and end before 5:00pm.

Q: Is this internship paid and how much?

A: Yes! We would never expect anyone to work for free! (what do you think we are? loco?!) We pay $18 per hour for studio hours during the week and during event weekends.

Q: If I apply will I automatically get an in person interview?

A: Unfortunately we can’t meet with every person who applies due to the typical volume of interest! If you receive a confirmation email asking about an interview, then we will meet with you in person at our floral studio or virtually as the next step in the application process.

Q: Will this internship lead to a job/ full-time position?

A: At this time our internships do NOT automatically lead to a position in the company. But we HAVE hired past interns and in general we love our interns and always keep them in mind as positions open up in the future with in our company and typically everyone continues to pop in for weekend events and busy seasons as needed!

Q: If I don’t get chosen (or if I can’t commit to the required time) for the internship is there anyway I can still be involved in Sweet Root Village and learn some sweet floral skills?

A: Yes! You’re in luck! We are always looking for eager creatives who want to learn on site by helping us at event set up and break downs. If you are interested in becoming apart of our creative team reach out to us via our website (scroll to the Creative Team section). We pay our creative team members $18 per hour for set up and $40 per hour for breaking down.

Applications Closed

(Applications close on Friday, March 15th)
You’ll become another well-documented face joining
our crew for the fall season and we can’t wait to meet you.

Past Internship Testimonials:

I came across the Sweet Root Internship completely by happenstance, but I will be forever grateful that I did. Rachel, Lauren, and their entire team lead with a level of kindness, patience, and respect that is unparalleled. They immediately made me feel like I was a part of the team and their studio harbors a safe space of growth and experimentation where creativity thrives. From learning the logistics of running a floral design business to understanding the principles that create stunning bouquets time and time again, I truly can’t imagine a better way to gain firsthand experience in the fast-paced and deeply artistic world of floral design.” – CHANDON (Fall Season, 2023)

“My Sweet Root Village internship is something I can’t put into words; however, I’ll do my best and try. I’ve been asked by fellow floral buds about my experience, and I say every time I loved it. 10 out of 10 highly recommended!  I fully enjoyed my experience, and I would do the 8 weeks over again because it went by so fast. I felt special and loved every day I came into work. I appreciated how everyone had a genuine interest in my experience and would share their knowledge and support. I feel as though the internship is tailored towards the individual and what they would want to learn and get out of it. I was specifically asked what I wanted to focus on, and I felt as though the internship was tailored towards designing. I really enjoyed the fact that you all were patient and are great teachers. I think that is key and makes the experience so beautiful is that you all enjoy teaching and being educators. You could sense when I was over thinking, struggling, or stuck while designing. You provided encouragement and helped the development of my skills. Initially, I wasn’t going to apply for the position and I’m so glad that I did. My father passed away last March, and the internship began the next month, so it brought so much light, and joy. This experience really built my confidence and further validated it as my happy place. I’m so grateful for my floral journey and that Sweet Root Village presence has been so heavily a part of it even prior to doing the internship. You have no idea the doors that have opened just by saying I’ve freelanced for SRV now to say I’ve interned too. I’m so lucky and grateful. Thank you for selecting me as the spring intern.” – RAVEN (Spring Season, 2023)

“Interning with Sweet Root allowed me to gain confidence, knowledge, and understanding of the greater flower industry and allowed me to bring skills back to my shop that have transformed the way I operate as a team member.“ – MELISSA (Spring Season, 2018)

“I took the SRV Internship to figure out if floral design was as dreamy as I imagined. Spoiler alert – It is! Thanks to the mentorship of SRV I learned everything about floral design: the dreamy artistry bits, the grungy shlepping inventory, Prednisone lower cost bits, even the business bits. About a year after my internship I was able to open my own studio and I am seriously so grateful to have learned from some of the hardest working, talented women ever.” – HAYLIE (Spring Season, 2017)

“I tried the Sweet Root internship because I know I could learn so much from working with Rachel, Lauren, and the rest of the Sweet Root staff. From the beginning, I could tell how much they loved what they were doing and the passion that they had for florals. From the practicalities of owning your own business to the creative process of making an arrangement. They had so much insight tot give and were willing to teach me as much as possible. Honestly, I wish I could be their intern again because I truly enjoyed this process so much!” – NIKKI (Fall Season, 2019)
