Glenstone Gardens Retreat Activities in Hunt Country, Virginia
A few weeks back, we were invited to Middleburg, Virginia to enjoy a Hunt Country Retreat hosted by Middleburg Hospitality!
Day two began with a vintage Landrover ride from our overnight stay at Red Fox Inn to the beautiful private estate, Glenstone Gardens where our host, Matilda, led us on a property tour with a warm cup of cider before splitting into pre-selected groups to take part in a mini excursion. Our options –– horseback riding or clay shooting. These sporting activities surprised and delighted guests who came from all over the country, many of whom had never visited this region or experienced Piedmont Virginia in its seasonal peak. We were able to appreciate the beauty of the rolling Piedmont hills by Vintage Landrovers which was a highlight. We returned from our separate excursions to an Asado lunch, which felt like the closest illustration of what Matilda’s family would do to host their own family and friends at the sprawling 120+ acre estate. Exceptional smoked meats, herbaceous fresh vegetable forward accouterments, locally made whisky and wine. And folk music dancing in between the trees.
Glenstone Gardens has been in the Reuter family since the 1700’s, they even have a family cemetery on site that dates back this far. The monumental Poplar Tree is an iconic landmark of the estate. The family maintains this carefully and does not cut down any limbs for its protection and preservation. At 400+ years old, it is one of the oldest trees in America.
